  • LeMond Revolution Trainer

    10 February 2011

There is a new kid on the block, and this turbo trainer is different to the "old style" trainers. The LeMond Revolution Trainer does away with the tyre on roller setup, instead using a cassette attached to the flywheel - so you bolt your frame into the cassette (much like you'd attach a back wheel)

So the idea is that without the use of the tyre that everything is much smoother, quieter and as important as the latter lasts longer.

Top idea - why has the LeMond Revolution Trainer taken so long to be launched?

  • SAVE 36% - Tacx T1868 Satori Stripes - Travel Bag & DVD

    21 December 2010

Chain Reaction have a super offer - albeit  a little late - for the Tacx T1868 Satori Stripes - Travel Bag & DVD.

The Satori is the warm-up trainer of choice for Pro Teams. The very robust Satori frame will stand its ground almost anywhere and has been designed to withstand incredible forces. The brake consists of a very powerful Neodymium magnet, an extra large steel flywheel and a handlebar mounted shift lever. At low pedalling frequencies this trainer can generate extremely high power. It is for instance possible to generate 400 watt at the relatively low speed of 27 km/h (17 m/h). This is exactly what you need shortly before the start of your race. The Satori is sold with the front wheel support that also serves as a carrying brace.

    Tacx cycletrainers are world-renowned.

Professional cyclists often use the Tacx trainers to warm up before races, especially before time trials. Next to that the cycletrainer is the ideal alternative for efficient indoor power and fitness training during the cold winter months. The Satori is part of eight Pro Tour teams' standard gear. In the international peloton you can find Tacx trainers with Team Saxo Bank, Astana, Lampre, Rabobank and Silence-Lotto, to name only a few. Furthermore Tacx is the loyal training buddy of pros, amateurs and cycling enthusiasts in 54 countries worldwide.

Alessandro Ballan, Team Lampre and 2008 World Champion: "We have been using the Tacx products for many years now. Thanks to the training sessions that you can do inside when the weather is bad, we are always able to prepare ourselves perfectly for a big race."

Efficient warm-ups on the Tacx Satori

The point of warming up? This is something every racing cyclist agrees on. But how does the ideal warm-up go together? Kinesiology specialist Louis Delahaije knows everything about it. As the trainer for the Rabobank cycle team he has developed a highly effective warm-up programme for all riders. This does need a sound and reliable unit and for Delahaije the Tacx Satori is the best there is.

Warming up for a contest is of essential importance. Anyone going into a race cold, will be finished after one kilometre. Professional riders have built up so much experience over the years that they know the value of a good warm-up only too well. In time trials it applies quite simply to all riders. In a race against the clock every Tour rider has to give it everything from the very start. The riders in the heat go for the yellow jersey and ride as fast as they can.

Domestiques also need to do their bit, since anyone who takes it to easy and comes in late and won't be allowed to set off the next day. That is why the pros use a cycletrainer prior to a time trial. The Satori by Tacx is a highly sought-after piece of kit. Just feast your eyes as the riders in the Tour prepare for their solo run. Eight teams have chosen Tacx. Crack riders such as Alberto Contador, Fabian Cancellara and Cadel Evans feel very much at home on the Satori. Oh yes, and of course Lance Armstrong.

The riders in the Rabo team also prepare themselves on the robust cycletrainer if they are about to ride in a prologue or a long time trial. This riding is not just about spinning the legs. You didn't think that a big power house like Denis Menchov just sits there pedalling did you? Physiologist Louis Delahaije, the trainer for the Rabobank cycling team, using scientific knowledge, has worked out exactly how the riders in the largest Dutch team can best prepare themselves for a prologue or long time trial.
    Video Cycling
Do you own a Tacx cycletrainer and a TV or computer? Then you can make your training much more interesting and adventurous with Video Cycling. This is very easy to do in the comfort of your home; the speed of the film is adapted to the course. While you are riding the film will show you in which position it is best to climb or descend. Shifting is done manually.

Choosing your Turbo Trainer
Many modern turbo trainers look the same - so how do you know which is best for you? Well you need to work out how much to spend. The cheapest we'd recommend would be around £100 - these are standard machines which have decent flywheels, any cheaper and they will rattle and vibrate.

As for features, well if you want to see how you get on - it might be best to go for a cheap one, and if you get hooked upgrade at a later date. If noise is a real problem (i.e. you live in a flat) you'll need to spend some cash on it to get a better model.

If you have the money, you could try a computer setup where you can race others over the internet, even race friends! Good luck!
